John Thomas Dougherty (my granda)died 1st january 2007 age 78 in South Shields Hospital he went in as out patient on 28th november 2006 to get a tap fitted in his chest so his family could drain the fluid which was building up from his own home rather than him going backwards and forwards to hospital. While getting it fitted something went wrong and he got admitted. During his time in hospital doctors removed 22litres of fluid in total, the wound which tap was fitted got infected and never seemed to get better so tests were made and we discovered he caught MRSA. After catching that he slowly got worse and died after just seeing the New Year in with my nana Vi mam Sandra and aunty Wendy at his bedside. He made sure our last christmas together even though half day was spent in hospital was a good one! He kept big smile on his face! as he opened all his presents! and made sure he stayed with us to see the new year in then god took him home leaving us at 01.22am. He was born to the late Isabella and John and was 1 of 4 children he spent quarter of his life in the RAF. He left behind wife Vi daughters Sandra, Wendy and the late Violet who died 2nd june 1955 at the age of 3. Grandchildren Nicola, Christopher, Colin, Deborah, Carl and Dannie. Great-grandchildren Abbie, Alisha and Macey. Macey never got chance to meet her special granda as she was born 28days after he left us. Anybody who knew John would all tell you he was a proper gentleman with a heart of gold, always had great big smile on his face and would go out his way to help all. No words can describe what he meant to his family he was 1 in a million, never a day goes by when we dont talk or think about him he is and will always be loved and missed terribly!!

But i can tell you something you never leave my thoughts love you sooooo much x

Hello grandad, been too long since I wrote something so thought I'd just give you a quick message:-) There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of you, we all still talk about you, especially Alisha! We all miss you so so much, I'd do anything to see you again, just to see your smile and to hear your voice, for you to wind me up about having a boyfriend hahah! You always made me smile, and you still do whenever I think about you. Whenever I'm feeling upset and think of you, I just put your pyjarma top on and it feels like you're here with me. I've been having a few dreams about you lately, and whenever I wake up I'm happy because I know you've been with me! I know you'll be looking down on us, so until we see eachother again rest in peace! Love you so much xxxx

Cant believe a year has passed already but heartache of when we lost you is still the same. Your always there in my mind even though your unseen and unheard i know you will always be near! All family got together new years eve to have a drink for you. Anyway hope you were watching us n enjoying yourself or drinking with us. Love n miss ya Forever!!
